About Musashi Izakaya

Musashi Izakaya at Level 1/181 Russell St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia, feels like the kind of city dining spot people look for when they want a relaxed Japanese-style meal with plenty of comfort on the menu. Set above street level, the location gives it a slightly tucked-away feel, which can make the experience seem a little more personal compared with busier ground-floor restaurants around Melbourne.

The menu brings together rich ramen bowls, shareable bites, and drinks that fit naturally with a casual lunch or a slower sit-down meal. Original Tonkotsu is one of the standout choices, especially for diners who enjoy a deep, creamy broth with a satisfying savoury finish. It has that comforting quality people often expect from a ramen-focused meal: warm, filling, and easy to enjoy without feeling too complicated.

For something with a more premium touch, Wagyu Ramen adds a richer character to the table. The idea of tender wagyu paired with ramen makes it a strong option for guests who want something more indulgent. Meanwhile, Red Dragon Ramen gives the menu a bolder edge, ideal for diners who prefer stronger flavours and a little more intensity in their bowl.

Takoyaki 5pcs is another highlight worth mentioning in reviews of Musashi Izakaya. These bite-sized pieces work well as a starter or side dish, especially when sharing food at the table. They help round out the meal before moving into ramen or pairing dishes with sake. Speaking of drinks, sake adds to the izakaya-style feel and gives guests a simple way to enjoy the food with something traditional and smooth.

The services also make Musashi Izakaya practical for different dining needs. No-contact delivery is available for those who prefer eating at home, while lunch service makes it convenient for a midday meal in the city. Vegetarian options give the menu more flexibility, and table service helps create a more comfortable dine-in experience. Debit cards are accepted, which keeps payment simple for everyday visits.

Overall, Musashi Izakaya offers a focused menu, a central Melbourne location, and a friendly dining setup that suits ramen lovers, casual groups, and anyone looking for a reliable Japanese-inspired restaurant experience.

Customer Reviews

“ Had an amazing dinner at Musashi Ramen & Izakaya. The Vegemite Triple Miso Ramen was surprisingly rich and full of umami, and the M9+ Wagyu Ramen torched at the table was a real highlight. Loved the fresh sashimi moriawase, comforting salmon onigiri, and flavourful wagyu gyudon. Desserts were also impressive especially the matcha crème brûlée. Great atmosphere, quality ingredients, and unique menu. Definitely coming back. ”

“ Had an amazing dinner experience at Musashi Izakaya Ramen Bar! From the moment we stepped in, the warm Japanese decor and open kitchen instantly set the vibe. Watching the chefs use a torch to sear wagyu beef right in front of us was such a highlight — the aroma alone made us hungry! We tried several dishes and everything was spot on: • Aburi Wagyu Sushi – tender, juicy, and full of smoky flavour. • Beef Ramen – rich broth and perfectly cooked noodles, great comfort food for a chilly night. • Sashimi Platter – super fresh and beautifully presented. • Beef Tartare Bites – creative and surprisingly delicious. Also loved their new drinks like Takikomi Ghan and Isekadoya Beer — both were refreshing and paired really well with the food. Service was friendly and quick, and prices were very reasonable for the quality and presentation. Definitely one of the best izakaya experiences in Melbourne! ”

“ Absolutely loved this izakaya experience! The food was authentic and full of flavour. The wagyu beef rice was rich and satisfying, especially when the warm broth was poured over to turn it into the perfect comforting bowl. The skewers were juicy and well-seasoned, and the karaage was crispy on the outside and tender inside. Even the sides like edamame and corn were done beautifully. Paired with a refreshing Isekado pale ale, it was the perfect casual Japanese feast. Cozy atmosphere and great for sharing – will definitely be back! ”

“ I really love ramen. I could risk anything for it. I like this restaurant because the servings are great and the atmosphere amazed me. I haven't been there for a while and I love the new decoration. Their food is always the best and don't disappoint me!! ”

“ Great izakaya-style ramen bar. The Australian beef was very tender and easy to chew — my dad loved it. Beef okonomiyaki was surprisingly soft and rich, almost like braised beef. Tried the Vegemite triple miso ramen as well — super bold and umami, though a bit heavy towards the end. Fun Japanese–Australian fusion, good food and relaxed vibe. Would come back. ”

“ Great spot in the CBD with a fun, lively atmosphere. The food was fresh and full of flavor, and the torched topping was a standout smoky and delicious. Service was friendly and quick, and the drink selection was a nice bonus. Would definitely come back! ”

“ Ordered: Night Vegemite Triple Miso Ramen- blow torched, melted cheese, well rounded broth. The Vegemite addition surprisingly works. The minced meat had a coarse texture/mouthfeel. Night Red Dragon (PORK)( super spicy) - pleasantly spicy, well balanced broth and a tender slice of pork belly. Choice of spice level. In both cases, ramen was cooked just right, broth seasoned well. Condiments at the table - soy, chilli powder (Ichimi Togarashi) and sesame seeds. Great friendly service, food served promptly. Well priced portions for food service at 1.30am. Order via QR code, pay at the counter when done. 10% Sunday surcharge, 5% discount for cash. ”

“ I was truly touched by the taste of the Unagi Takikomi Gohan. Every grain of rice was flavorful, as if it had been cooked with great care and heart. My daughter and I are quite picky eaters, but she ordered the Assorted Onigiri and absolutely loved it. The taste was delicious, and you can really tell the ingredients are premium and very fresh. This is my third time visiting. On my first visit, I met the staff Daniel and Ran. Daniel was very helpful and even helped cut the squid for me, which I really appreciated. Today I met Allen and Yu, and they were also very friendly and welcoming. Whenever I come back to Melbourne, I will definitely return here again. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ”
